VIVALDI, LE PRETRE ROUX
2 x 90 '
Synopsis
Antonio Vivaldi was a true star of the Baroque era. Now, new evidence reveals that there may be more to his life story than previously known. Based on a recently discovered document from 1711, the film speculates on the love affairs of the celebrated composer.
As reported by the harbormaster of Genoa, the story opens on a fateful August day when Vivaldi awaits the arrival of a ship from England bearing his lover and their infant son. Tragically, he learns that the ship was destroyed in a storm with no survivors.
The discovery of this unknown event in Vivaldi’s life gives reason to believe that the great musician – who was also a Catholic priest – may have lead a secret life outside the confines of his vow of chastity. After years of detailed research, writer-director Liana Marabini pieces together a fictionalized account that sheds new light on the women in Vivaldi’s life from the mother of his child, Laura Padovan, to his acclaimed protégée, Anna Giro.
