CHATEAUBRIAND
1x107'
Synopsis
As a child, he sought refuge in the forest. There among the friends and fairies of his imagination, he could escape the somber family castle and the demands of an overbearing father.
As an adult, he lived at the crossroads of history. An eyewitness to the French and American Revolutions, he rubbed elbows with all the key players – from Washington and Robespierre to Napoleon and Louis XVIII. He watched as man changed his destiny and the modern era was ushered in. A stark Gothic childhood gave way to an uplifting new Romanticism.
This is the epic story of François-René de Chateaubriand: explorer, statesman, journalist, lover and the first of the great French Romantic novelists. But, in the end, his own life was perhaps the greatest novel of all.
