AN AFRICAN MATRIARCH - HADJA MOI
1 x 52 '
Synopsis
At 103 years young, Hadja Moi is possibly the last of her kind. Illiterate, with no formal education, she is the matriarch of her clan and the guardian of a rich collective memory. With her alone rests the responsibility of passing on this oral tradition to her children, grandchildren and beyond.
But, these days children in Guinea go to school and learn from books. The long-acquired wisdom of African sages like Hadja Moi is slowly disappearing. Her lessons of love, respect, sincerity and solidarity must compete with math, science and reading.
The filmmaker is the husband of Hadja Moi’s granddaughter. With his unique access, he spends one year at her side to capture forever her life, her story, her humor, her spirit, and just a small portion of her age-old wisdom.
