Synopsis
First performed in 1673, Jean-Baptiste Lully’s Cadmus et Hermione is a groundbreaking work that established a whole new musical genre: the French lyric tragedy. Based on Ovid’s Metamorphoses, the opera tells the tale of the legendary founder of Thebes, who does battle with giants and dragons to rescue the daughter of Ares and Aphrodite.
An ambitious new production of this historic work by French opera company Le Poème Harmonique is filmed live on stage. Shot from every angle by seven different cameras, all the beauty and drama of the stage production are elegantly captured and preserved.
