GUARDIANS OF THE WORLD'S TREASURES
1 x 110 '
Synopsis
The Khmer temples in Cambodia, Roman cities in Tunisia, the royal palaces in Benin, Corsica's Scandola natural park: all of these teasures, on UNESCO's World Heritage List, have their guardians.
The Saviours of Angkor
The famous temples of Cambodia were endangered by war and plunder. Azedine Beschaouch, one of UNESCO's major players, saved them from destruction.
The guardian of Scandola
Jean Marie Dominici watches over Corsica's Scandola Reserve. It the only natural venue in France on UNESCO's World Heritage list.
The Emergency Restorer
Gaël de Guichen is in Tunisia fighting for the preservation of its ancient teasures. His goal for preserving the place's authenticity is to conserve the Roman mosaics where they lie rather than pull them up and confine them to a museum. "Mosaics are the final shield for protecting a venue," he says. "If they are removed, the place loses its soul. Visitors go elsewhere, and the site is condemned to death."
