EUROPE'S GREATEST OPERA HOUSES AND CONCERT HALLS
1 x 52 '
Synopsis
Europe possesses many treasures. Among these, without question, are its large concert halls and opera houses. They are often sublime expressions of human talent and madness. Not only were these halls built as beautiful showcases for music, they were often a manifestation of the power wielded by a monarch or a social class.
Ep. 1 Le Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels
The Théâtre de la Monnaie turns 306 this year. Residing in the heart of Brussels, this old lady has become one of Europe's great opera houses down through the centuries. From the beginning of this portrait, she talks to the viewer in the first person, for "La Monnaie", as everyone who works there calls her, is taken for a living person. She takes us onto the stage, where "her heart has always beat the strongest", where a new production of Cosi Fan Tutti is entering into final rehearsals.
