Synopsis

Studies undertaken over the last several years show that our coastal waters host numerous species of Cetaceans, whales and dolphins, sometimes in great numbers, as is the case in the Mediterranean. France, therefore, has a responsibility in their preservation, as these animals are particularly sensitive to modifications in their environment. For this reason, the program of action for biological diversity established by the French government contains a plan of action for the Cetaceans. This plan anticipates creating a better understanding of the evolution of these populations, as well as direct mesures of conservation, such as the creation of protected areas: Sanctuaries.
