GAUGUIN
1x52'
Synopsis
It is often said of Gaugin that he is the painter of the Marquesas Islands. He was, in fact, born in Peru and revealed when he went to Brittany. He traveled a great deal. He painted Breton women in Arles and women of the Marquesas Islands in Brittany. He was a cultured man and knew many intellectuals. He became involved with Symbolism in order to remove himself more fully from it. He rejected impressionism and naturalism. He had a fascination for primitive art and was, in his way, at the origin of the cubist movement.
