Synopsis
After studying dance with Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham, Twyla Tharp made her professional debut with Paul Taylor in 1963, then went on to form her own company.She has created and performed more than seventy works, as well as working extensively in films - she choreographed the dance sequences for "Hair" and "Amadeus" - and on projects for television and video.For this programme, Twyla Tharp assembled dancers drawn from leading American companies.The two pieces, "Fever Solo" and "Java Jive", involving preparation and improvisation, are followed by the major work "In the Upper Room", a breathtaking tour de force set to music by Philip Glass.
