BALANCHINE IN AMERICA
1 x 57 '
Synopsis
George Ballanchine's long love affair with America is celebrated in two of his most enduring works, danced in this production by the New York City Ballet, thee company he founded.
"Serenade", danced to Tchaikovsky's Serenade in C Major, is the first work the choregrapher created in America (1934). The production features principal dancers Darci Kistler, Kya Nichols, Maria Calegari, Leonid Koslov and Adam LĀders.
If "Serenade" was inspired by Ballanchine's Russiona past, "Western Symphony", Balanchine's "cowboy's ballet", is a tribute to his adopted homeland. It is set to Hershy Kay's arrangements of popular songs of the American West.
