PELLEAS ET MELISANDE
1 x 159 '
Synopsis
This Debussy's opera, based upon Maeterlinck's play of the same name and first performed at the Paris Opéra-Comique in 1902, has excited controversy from the outset, with critics divided by its yoking together of Gallic musical precision with a libretto that evokes an undisguisedly Germanic yearning for mythic forests, castles and mountains. Pierre Boulez and Peter Stein have created a truly memorable version of "Pelléas". The opera was recorded for television in studio conditions at the New Theatre, Cardiff in March 1992.Best Opera Production of the Year in the 1992 International Classical Music Awards.
