Synopsis
"Boris Godunov" is a musical chronicle much like the historical dramas of Shakespeare.The opera is based on a curious episode from Russian history around 1600.Boris (R.Lloyd), brother-in-law and chief minister of the Tsar, has had the heir to the throne assassinated, and upon the Tsar's death seizes power for himself.Meanwhile a young ex-monk, Grigory (A.Steblianko), goes to Poland where he passes himself off as the murdered heir.The Polish government, turning the situation to its advantage, sends an army led by Grigory towards Russia. En route, they hear of the death of Boris; and Grigory accedes to the throne.
